About Us
Artza Mendi Farm sprung up from the soil of a former dairy farm in Baltic, a small village in Sprague, Connecticut. Since that time the farm has been committed to regenerative agriculture, producing delicious eggs with pasture-raised hens.
Starting from the Ground Up
Artza Mendi Farm was brought to life in 2023 by Murray Gates, a Navy veteran and agricultural business advisor for the Connecticut Small Business Development Center. On an 83-acre property in Baltic, Murray has started his farm operation with 500 chickens and is committed to regenerative agriculture and serving his community.
Building Community
Artza Mendi Farm has welcomed another farmer to its expansive acreage, creating an integrated system of sustainable agriculture.
More Happy Chickens
Dan and Tanya Riley lease three acres for their chicken operation. They've included their sons in the family farm, with their son Nathan hoping to own his own farm and food truck when he grows up. Like Murray, a fellow Navy veteran, Dan practices rotational grazing with his flock of happy chickens.
The Future of the Farmhouse
As part of the 83 acres that Murray purchased to build Artza Mendi Farm, he acquired the old farmhouse that was tied to the original dairy farm. While the house needs quite a bit of TLC, there are talks of updating it and using it as a resource for community events and gatherings.
